Sebelum kita membahas lebih jauh mengenai descriptive text, ada baiknya kita memahami apa yang dimaksud dengan descriptive text sehingga kita bisa merumuskan kalimat descriptive.

Descriptive text adalah suatu text yang menjelaskan atau memberikan gambaran (deskripsi) mengenai seseorang, binatang, suatu benda atau suatu tempat. Jadi, tujuan dari descriptive text adalah untuk menggambarkan suatu hal.

Ciri-ciri dari descriptive text diantaranya:

• Menggunakan simple present tense
• Menggunakan action verb yaitu kata kerja yang menunjukkan suatu kegiatan yang bisa dilihat, contohnya walk, sleep, read, cook dan sebagainya.
• Verb yang digunakan yaitu attribute verb, seperti be (am, is, are)

Dari ciri-ciri diatas maka kita bisa merumuskan bentuk positif dan negatif dari kalimat descriptive.

Tenses yang digunakan adalah Simple Present Tense

(+) S+ Verb-1

(-) S+ don't/doesn't+verb-1

(?) Do/does + S+verb-1

Contoh dalam kalimat:

1. I go to school every morning (+)

  I don't go to school every morning (-)

 Do I go to school every morning?

2. My mother has curly hair.

   My mother doesn't have curly hair.

   Does my mother have curly hair?

3. The sun rises from the east (+)

   The sun doesn't rise from the east (-)

    Does the sun rise from the east?

Verb yang digunakan yaitu attribute verb, seperti be (am, is, are)

(+) S+to-be (is/am/are)+ fact (adjective)

(-) S+ to-be (is/am/are) + not + fact

(?) To-be (is/am/are) + S+ fact

Contoh dalam kalimat:

1. She is a beautiful lady.

  She isn't a beautiful lady.

  Is she a beautiful lady?

2. The students are wearing blue and white uniforms.

  The students are not wearing blue and white uniforms.

  Are the students wearing blue and white uniforms?
